Nine Apps with Huge Benefits for Small Business Owners

When smartphones first became prominent, the phrase we heard constantly was, “There’s an app for that!” That phrase still rings true today, as there are nearly 2 million apps currently available for download on the Apple App Store. But apps don’t have to be restricted to simple tasks like checking the weather or scrolling social media. In fact, there are plenty of apps out there perfect for small businesses. Here are nine unique apps that every small business owner should have on their device.

Project Management

1. Asana

Keeping everyone in your team on the same page is key, especially when there’s one major project with tons of different responsibilities. Asana is ideal for bringing your team together and explaining who needs to do what and when. You can create different teams for each project, give assignments and deadlines, and even list important resources to refer back to. Asana has a free version that can accommodate up to 15 users, but the two paid plans are still affordable at $10.99 (Premium) and $24.99 (Business) per month.

2. Basecamp

Another popular project management app is Basecamp, which is designed specifically for teams who work remotely (although we’d argue that it’s a great tool for in-person teams as well!). Each project integrates unique tools like a message board, to-do lists, schedules, group chats, and even automatic check-ins. Your team can let you know when they’re out of the office and track projects by stages to keep everyone on the same page. Basecamp offers a 30-day free trial followed by a $99 per month flat fee. (You can also use Basecamp Personal for free, though the capabilities are limited.)

3. Trello

If your projects and tasks are constantly moving around, you’ll likely enjoy the formatting of Trello. You can create any number of Boards for individual projects, and within those Boards, you can list tasks on Cards. Then, as tasks move from “To Do” to “Doing” to “Done,” you can simply drag and drop to meet the current conditions. Trello also boasts no-code automation and countless integration with other work tools you might be using. Trello does offer a free version, along with Standard ($5 per month), Premium ($10 per month), and Enterprise ($17.50 per month per user).

Accounting

4. QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online is arguably the most common accounting software in the small business world, and for good reason. You can create invoices, check your inventory, automatically track every income and expense, or view all of your numbers at a glance. Plus, you’ll be able to breathe much easier when tax time comes around. Opt for the Simple Start plan ($12.50 per month), Essentials ($25 per month), Plus ($40 per month), or Advanced ($90 per month).

5. Wave

Designed specifically for small business owners, Wave offers a variety of finance-based products. The accounting software not only tracks your income and expenses but can also connect with other Wave products like invoicing and payroll. Speaking strictly about the accounting software, small business owners can feel at ease with the simple layout and straightforward language along with the top-notch security and the streamlined organization. Wave’s accounting software is available for free.

6. Zoho Books

If you’re searching for accounting software that can seamlessly integrate with your other workplace tools, Zoho Books may be a good option. This platform allows you to handle virtually every aspect of your business’s finances, from invoicing to ensuring tax compliance and everything in between. Users can easily keep track of payments, organize inventory, categorize banking transactions, and customize and share reports. Zoho Books does offer a free version of their service, along with Standard ($15 per month), Professional ($40 per month), and Premium ($60 per month) options.

Customer Relations

7. ZenDesk

Keep your customers satisfied with an all-inclusive CRM (customer relationship management) platform like ZenDesk. You can take advantage of customizable software that provides a personalized experience to every single customer. Plus, with the helpful chatbot, customers can get the answers they need without taking away from your precious time. You can begin using ZenDesk with a free trial before subscribing to the Team ($19 per agent per month), Professional ($49 per agent per month), or Enterprise ($99 per agent per month) plan.

8. Benbria

Benbria offers a variety of customer relations products specific to some of the most in-demand industries. For instance, restaurant owners can use Benbria to collect feedback from customers and use that feedback to improve employee training. For those in hospitality, Benbria makes it easy to fulfill customer requests in a contactless manner, providing safe and fast service. Since Benbria has so many solutions for individual needs, they do not have a pricing guide, but you can request a free quote on their website.

9. HappyFox

Trusted by major enterprises such as Whirlpool and LeapFrog, HappyFox is a one-stop-shop for all of your customer relations needs. You can easily organize and respond to all support tickets that come in, and you can gain important insights from these tickets to improve your overall operations. Their customer support software boasts features like multi-language support, automation capabilities, various integrations, and social media support. Pricing varies depending on how many agents you have, but regardless of your company size, you can select from the Mighty, Fantastic, Enterprise, or Enterprise Plus plans, which each come with a free demo.
