The Art of Scaling a Business Featuring Speaker Vera Moore
Vera, an actress turned entrepreneur, is President & CEO of the highly competitive family-owned business, Vera Moore Cosmetics. Vera appeared on several soap operas prior to her major contract on national television (NBC). She portrayed the character Linda Metcalf as a nurse for ten years on Another World. Her role created the first one-hour black family in the soap opera. It was while on the show that she realized there were no cosmetics for women of darker complexion and got inspired to launch her eponymously named line of cosmetics and skincare in 1979.
Vera trailblazed and broke the color barrier in 1982 as the first black tenant for 25 years in the history of the prestigious Green Acres Mall, Valley Stream, Long Island, NY.
Vera went on to become the first black vendor in Walgreens' select upscale “Look-boutique” stores for 10 yrs. As a passionate advocate for women-owned businesses, Vera continues to level the playing field for women by knocking down barriers that impede their growth. That consistent commitment led to Macy's and several successful licensing agreements in major malls.
Vera is a coveted motivational speaker and an active participant in community organizations such as MARLS NYC, Kids Need More, Smile Train, and Girls Making their Mark in Andros Island of the Bahamas. Her journey also led to “Conversations with Vera” on LinkedIn and Google.
Her signature speech on entrepreneurship can be found at the Fashion Institute of Technology Library Archives. She also spoke at the first Urban Economic Council presented by the White House Business Council on Women and Girls, Black Enterprise Entrepreneurial Conference, Essence Festival, and Women of Color Empowerment Institute.
She is a former board member of the National Minority Business Council, NY; the NY Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and a current member of MARLS NYC and the Global Black Woman Chamber of Commerce (GBWCC) NY.

Break the 12 Habits Holding You Back
You are invited to join us for a workshop with Columbia and Hofstra Entrepreneur in Residence and former Wall Street senior executive, Barbara Roberts, expert on women entrepreneurial and corporate success. What worked for you in the past may very well be sabotaging your future success. In this interactive session, Barbara Roberts will guide members through a deep-dive analysis designed to reveal the roadblocks responsible for hindering growth.
Do you hesitate about putting forward ideas? Are you reluctant to claim credit for your achievements? Do you find it difficult to get the support you need from your boss or the recognition you deserve from your colleagues?
Unfortunately, majority of women answer "yes", to at least one of the above questions. In order to become one of the highest performing Wall Street Senior Executives on the trading floor, Roberts had to take an introspective approach. Like Roberts, it's time for you to take specific, intentional actions that will catapult you closer to your professional goals.
ABOUT BARBARA ROBERTS
Former Entrepreneur in Residence (now Advisor) at the Eugene Lang Center for Entrepreneurship at Columbia Business School.
For over ten years, as Entrepreneur in Residence at Columbia Business School and Hofstra University, Barbara Roberts has taught about entrepreneurship and innovation and helped hundreds of entrepreneurs launch their companies. Previously an economist by training, Barbara held senior positions on Wall Street and was the first woman to serve on Dean Witter’s board of directors. She then built and sold the award-winning stock photography company, FPG International, now part of Getty Images, and then the museum audio tour company, Acoustiguide, now part of Espro Acoustiguide.

Harnessing Fear through Uncertainty Presented by Adventurer Tom Fabbri
ABOUT TOM FABBRI
World-Class Adventurer, Health and Wellness Expert, Entrepreneur, and Life Wrangler.
He was in his 20s and should have felt optimistic and energized. Instead, Tom was plagued with emotional pain, drinking, jail time, drifting apart from his high school sweetheart, divorce, and bankruptcy. But everything changed when he began living a purpose-driven life.
When he was 28, he was cleaning corporate jets and helicopters. Now, he's flying them.
He plotted his career in aviation while working minimum wage in a Connecticut hangar. Longing for the alluring lifestyle of the pilots he saw each day, he asked his boss how he might become one. His boss scoffed. According to him, a degree-less man nearing 30 had no business in the cockpit of a jet aircraft.
But hey, no hard feelings. He told him he couldn’t and that’s why he did.
Years later, Tom would have the opportunity to fly Morgan Freeman on an adventure around the world. Their excursion would then air on National Geographic Television.
He's earned his wings, but the adventure continues...
Soon, he'll be one of only fifteen Americans to complete the world’s most coveted adventure achievement: the Adventurers’ Grand Slam.
Consider this: a man with a fear of heights has conquered the world's highest summits. He doesn't let anything stop him from reaching new peaks.
If he can do it, so can you.
Through his ambitious expeditions, thought-provoking books, and revolutionary fitness inventions, Tom inspires others to move toward the zenith of their potential.

“Our mission is ending human trafficking and sexual exploitation by raising awareness through media and grassroots mobilization, advocacy, education, and policy.”
Lynn’s Warriors invites you to join us for a community discussion about the critical and crucial escalation of sex trafficking and exploitation taking place in every town, city, and rural area in America. Lynn hosts Warrior Wednesdays on WVOX Radio, a program featuring breaking news, expert guests, safety tips, resources, and solutions for the public focusing on the American crisis of human trafficking.
Do you know what your children and grandchildren are doing online? The predators do. Join us for a discussion on the digital landscape facing our kids today, the indicators of exploitation and trafficking, the realities of the mental and physical trauma that victims and survivors endure for a lifetime in addition to the necessary role of law enforcement and how they are looking at trafficking through a new lens with the renewed promise of holding those accountable who cause harm. Community creates change.
Is this frightening? Yes, because it’s all true. Don’t let your child or grandchild be the next victim. Let’s all come together and engage, educate, and empower ourselves and our children with facts and action against all forms of predation. #BeAWarrior
